Rosemary Gladstar’s Valentine Sweets

This was always one of my favorite holidays.  When my children were young, we dressed the house in red, made handmade valentines, and spent hours writing love notes to friends and family.  I just loved that a day  was set aside for people to tell one another they love them! I think we need far more days in the year to shower the world with love…

Looking for something special to give those you love this Valentine’s Day?!  I just finished a batch of these divine chocolates. Not only delicious, and super good for you, they are also simple and easy to make. (I timed myself; it took me 30 minutes to make 2 batches of Super Chocolate Love Bars.

“Turmerica Bars” 

Chocolate & Turmeric  Super Bars

*Recipe adapted from herbalists Penny &  Bevin Clare (Mother & Daughter team).

  1. 16 oz bitter sweet dark chocolate (or milk chocolate)
  2. 8 oz Coconut Oil
  3. 1 cup finely chopped walnuts
  4. ½ – 1 cup Turmeric (that’s right! ‘cup’ not teaspoon or tablespoon…)
  5. 1 tsp pure Vanilla Extract
  6. ½ – 1 teaspoon course ground black pepper
  7. Course ground Hawaian Black Sea Salt , or Pink Himalyian Salt
  8. Optional: 2-3 tablespoons grated fresh ginger (not dried)
    Melt Chocolate & Coconut oil together over low heat.  Stir in  Vanilla and add herbs (turmeric, black pepper and ginger (optional)).  Stir well, making sure there aren’t any lumps.

  • Stir in ground nuts.
  • Pour into a shallow baking dish.  Place somewhere cool or cold to harden.
  • Sprinkle the top lightly with course ground Hawaiian Salt or Pink Himalyian salt.
  • Cut or break into small pieces.
  • Store in a cool place, not near heat. * The coconut oil will cause this chocolate to melt in ‘your hands’, so be sure to store in a cool place.

Ruby Red Hibiscus Punch

    Fill a quart jar half way with hibiscus flowers.

  • Cover with boiling water and let sit for 30-40 minutes, the longer the better.
  • The hibiscus tea will be quite sour, so sweeten with stevia or honey to taste.
  • Add a squeeze of lemon.
  • Place in the refrig to cool.
  • When cold, fill a fancy clear glass half full with the hibiscus tea, and add sparkling tonic water. Serve with a slice of lemon.

This drink is so refreshing, heart healthy and rich in plant pigments that enhance the immune system.

* There are lots of variations to this tea; add lemon balm and oats, rose hips and roses, cinnamon, Chinese Star Anise….. the variations are limited only by imagination!
