Rosemary Gladstar’s Notes on Echinacea

Because Echinacea belongs to the rather large family the Compositae’s or Aster’s, some people do get allergic like reactions when they use it. If allergic to other members of the Compisitae family, you may experience skin rashes, itchy eyes, nose and throat when using Echinacea. If this occurs, discontinue use. Symptoms will disappear soon after usage is stopped.  Also, as mentioned above, some herbalists/doctors feel its counter indicated with autoimmune disorders because it increases or enhances immune function.  If using Echinacea on a person with autoimmune disorders and symptoms worsen instead of getting better, discontinue the herb.
